Highway Review:
Leaving the Tulsa area and the Creek Turnpike behind, Interstate 44 becomes the Will Rogers Turnpike just north of the Pine St. on-ramp. About five miles later, it sees its first interchange, and also its newest. Built during 2002, Exit 248 (OK 266 West) provides much easier access from Interstate 44 to the Port of Catoosa. The rest of the turnpike has remained basically the same since its completion 50 years ago.
The Will Rogers Turnpike has six interchanges besides the one at OK 266. Exit 255 (OK 20) serves Claremore, Exit 269, a half-interchange with only an eastbound off-ramp and a westbound on-ramp, serves OK 28, Exit 283 (U.S. 69) serves Big Cabin, Exit 289 (U.S. 60/U.S. 69) serves Vinita, Exit 302 (U.S. 59/U.S. 60/U.S. 69) serves Afton and the Grand Lake area, and Exit 313 (OK 10) serves Miami. Oh, and by the way, the town at that last exit is pronounced my-am-uhh, not my-am-ee. This isn't Florida, this is Oklahoma, and we say things differently around here!
The toll plaza is located between Exit 283 (U.S. 69) and Exit 289. (U.S. 60/69) Motorists traveling all 86 miles of the turnpike pay $3.50, or if they have a Pike Pass, it's a little less than that. If you don't have the money to pay the toll, then you'd better have $117 laying around somewhere, because that's how much the fine is in Oklahoma for refusing to pay toll.

Vinita is a city in south-central Craig County, Oklahoma, United States. As of 2009, the population estimate was 6,057. It is the county seat of Craig County.
Vinita is located in Northeastern Oklahoma, a region of the state known as Green Country. It sits at the base of the Ozark Highland topographical region in a mix of prairie and forest. It is located at 36°38′28″N 95°9′24″W / 36.64111°N 95.15667°W / 36.64111; -95.15667 (36.641193, -95.156676). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.3 square miles (11.3 km²), all of it land. Vinita is located in south central Craig County.
As of the census of 2000, there were 6,472 people, 2,381 households, and 1,454 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,486.9 people per square mile (574.4/km²). There were 2,694 housing units at an average density of 618.9 per square mile (239.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 67.32% White, 6.12% African American, 14.86% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.62% from other races, and 10.77% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.48% of the population.
